Liposuction plastic surgery is the most common type of plastic surgery today. Arm liposuction is the second most common requested plastic surgery next to stomach or abdomen liposuction, in fact the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons has reported that over one hundred thousand liposuction procedures are done in the United States every year. Arms and legs can be a perplexing problem that arm liposuction can resolve with nice results and only a few dots on the inside of upper arm area opposite of the arm pit.
The Procedure
The tumescent procedure is the most common technique of arm liposuction. With this technique only a local anesthesia is required, eliminating the cost and risk that are associated with a general anesthesia, in addition trauma and blood losses are significantly reduced with this technique. Tumescent technique involves the use of a diluted solution of local anesthetic which is then injected where the arm liposuction is to be done, numbing the area and pumping up the fatty area where the liposuction is to be done.
Advantages and Disadvantages
The largest advantage to arm liposuction is that the scaring is barely noticeable as a few small holes are placed in the under part of the arm where the fat will be vacuumed. The disadvantage to arm liposuction is some, but very minimal skin elasticity is involved with the upper arm which means that there is usually some hanging skin left that the arm liposuction can not remove. Usually additional plastic surgery will be necessary.
Arm Tuck
After arm liposuction the hanging arm skin some times called “bat wings” is not only embarrassing but will also have an affect on the clothes that you are wearing and your self esteem. After arm liposuction, the skin and subcutaneous (the fat directly under the skin) fat of the upper arms hangs and is very common. Where arm liposuction will not take care of this problem but an arm tuck will.
This is the most common plastic surgery second to stomach. They surgeon will make and incision in the arm pit and pull the excess skin towards the arm pit and cut away the excess arm skin and sculpt the skin. The most involved plastic surgery called brachioplasty involves both the arm liposuction and the removal of the excess skin. This procedure is usually only for the most extreme conditions for the formerly obese who have had major weight loss.
Recovery
Recovery from arm liposuction will usually take three to six weeks depending on whether or not if you needed the arm tuck in addition to the liposuction.
